Prove your work brings people in.

Continuous footfall counts across your area, so you can show levy payers and members what your events, campaigns and projects achieved, and go into renewal with evidence instead of anecdote.

Levy payers want proof, not a list of activity.

BIDs and town teams answer to the businesses that fund them. Without footfall data, it's hard to show what your work changed, and harder still at ballot time.

  • Members ask what they get

Levy payers see the events, the planting and the marketing, but not whether any of it brought more people to their door.

  • Events are judged on feel

Without counts, a busy-looking event and a quiet one read the same in the report that follows.

  • Renewal needs a track record

A renewal ballot asks businesses to vote on years of work, and opinion is easy to argue with.

Evidence your levy payers can see.

Continuous counts at agreed points across your BID or town team area, turned into reports you can share with members, your board and partners.

  1. Set a baseline

Know typical footfall at each counting point, by day and hour, so every project has something to be measured against.

  2. Measure every event

Compare event days, markets and campaigns with a typical day to show how many extra visits they brought, and where.

  3. Report back to members

Put independent footfall figures in member updates, annual reports and board papers.

  4. Build the renewal case

Take a record of footfall across your BID term into the ballot, alongside what the BID delivered.

Questions BIDs and town teams ask

Footfall data shows a BID or town team how many people visit each part of its area, and when, so you can measure what your work achieves and report it to the businesses you represent.

How can a BID use footfall data?

To set a baseline for your area, measure the effect of events, campaigns and projects against it, and report the results to levy payers, your board and partners.

Which BIDs work with ProximityFutures?

Business improvement districts across the UK, including Loughborough BID, Penzance BID, Lincoln BIG, Hereford BID and Southampton BID.

Can footfall data support a BID renewal ballot?

Yes. A record of footfall across your BID term gives levy payers independent evidence of how the area has performed, to set beside what the BID delivered.

Can we show whether an event or campaign worked?

Yes. Compare footfall on the day with a typical day at the same counting points to see how many extra visits it brought and where people went.

We're a town team, not a BID. Is this for us?

Yes. Town teams, partnerships and traders' groups use footfall data the same way, to measure what their work brings in and to support funding applications.

Can we share the data with our council?

Yes. Many town centres are run in partnership, and the same footfall data can be shared with your council so everyone works from one set of numbers.

How is footfall counted?

Sensors at agreed counting points across your area pick up the WiFi signals phones send out (probe requests) and count visits continuously. The counts feed a dashboard and reports your team can use, so there is no manual survey to organise.

Does footfall counting identify individuals?

Footfall reporting gives you counts and trends, not information about who people are. We will take you through how the data is collected and handled as part of setting up.
